What is the Filament Usage Calculator?
The Filament Usage Calculator helps makers and production teams calculate the total mass of filament required for bulk print runs, preventing unexpected spool exhaustion during long jobs.
Formula Used
• Net Batch Weight = Part Weight (g) × Quantity
• Gross Required Weight = Net Batch Weight × (1 + Waste % / 100)
• Spools Required = CEIL(Gross Required Weight / Spool Capacity)
Real-World Example
To print 35 tabletop miniatures using 28g of PLA each with a 10% waste buffer:
• Net Weight = 35 × 28g = 980g
• Gross Weight = 980g × 1.10 = 1,078g
• Total 1kg spools needed = 2 spools (1,078g / 1,000g = 1.08 -> 2 spools).
Accuracy and Limitations
High-infill parts or models requiring dense organic tree supports may consume more material than estimated.
Who It Is For
Kickstarter fulfillment managers, cosplay armor builders, and makers preparing for bulk batch manufacturing.
