Formula Used
• Total Waste (g) = Purge Poop Mass (g) + Prime Tower Mass (g)
• Waste Cost ($) = Total Waste (g) × (Spool Price / 1000)
• Waste Ratio (%) = (Total Waste / (Model Mass + Total Waste)) × 100
Real-World Example
A 50g figurine generates 150g of purge waste with $20/kg filament:
• Total Waste = 150g (75% of all extruded filament is waste!)
• Waste Cost = 150g × $0.02 = $3.00 wasted.
Accuracy and Limitations
Tuning flush multipliers down (e.g. from 1.0 to 0.6) significantly decreases waste without color bleeding.
Purge waste (often called 'filament poop') is the extruded material ejected during nozzle cleaning between color changes to prevent the previous color from bleeding into the new color.
