How to Use Volumetric Flow Calculator
Select your hotend model preset (Standard V6 ~12 mm³/s, Bambu Stock ~22–28 mm³/s, Volcano ~30 mm³/s, CHT ~35 mm³/s). Enter your filament extrusion temperature and material type. Input your target layer height and line width to obtain the maximum safe speed threshold.
What is the Volumetric Flow Calculator?
A diagnostic calculator that maps hotend thermal wattage and melt zone volume to maximum safe printing velocities.
Formula Used
• Volumetric Limit = Melt Chamber Volume × Thermal Transfer Factor
• Max Safe Speed = Volumetric Limit / (Layer Height × Line Width)
Real-World Example
With a 30 mm³/s Volcano hotend at 0.20mm layer height and 0.50mm line width:
• Max Safe Speed = 30 / (0.20 × 0.50) = 300 mm/s.
Accuracy and Limitations
Higher nozzle temperatures and CHT (Core Heating Technology) nozzles increase maximum volumetric throughput.
Who It Is For
Speed boat race competitors, Klipper tuners, and high-productivity print farm operators.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum volumetric speed in OrcaSlicer / Bambu Studio?
Maximum volumetric speed is a slicer safety cap that automatically limits toolhead velocity so the required flow rate never exceeds the hotend's thermal melt capacity.
